Drug family: Cortisone derivative
This medicine is a generic of CORTANCYL

WHEN IS PREDNISONE ARROW PRESCRIBED?
This medication is a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the family of synthetic corticoids (chemical derivatives of natural cortisone). Cortisone has many properties, but it is mainly used for its powerful anti-inflammatory effect. It has fewer side effects than natural cortisone with the same effectiveness. These properties are useful in the treatment of numerous affections with an inflammatory or allergic component, but also of certain cancers where this drug allows to fight against cellular proliferation. It decreases immune reactions and is therefore used to prevent organ transplant rejection.

It is used in the treatment of certain serious diseases (cancer, multiple sclerosis, rheumatic fever, for example), but also of more benign diseases (allergy, asthma attack, acute sinusitis, ear infection). In the latter cases, the treatment is often short.

Infection or fungus not controlled by appropriate treatment,

Evolving viral disease (herpes or shingles),

psychosis not controlled by treatment.

CAUTION
This medication should never be used or re-used without a medical prescription.

If you have diabetes, you may unbalance it if you change the amount or rate of corticosteroid use without medical advice.

People with a history of tuberculosis, stomach or duodenal ulcers, kidney or liver failure, ulcerative colitis, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, or myasthenia gravis require special medical care.

Prolonged use of a corticoid reduces the immune system: vaccination with a vaccine containing live attenuated germs should only be carried out with the agreement of your doctor. You should also avoid contact with people who have chickenpox or measles.

Treatment should be stopped gradually to allow the adrenal glands to resume natural cortisone synthesis. Stopping treatment abruptly also exposes the patient to a relapse of the disease being treated. This precaution is only useful when the duration of the treatment exceeds one week.

Caution: sportsmen and women: this drug contains a substance that may make some anti-doping tests positive.

INTERACTIONS OF PREDNISONE ARROW WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES
This medication may interact with drugs that cause torsades de pointes.

FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
PREGNANCY:
The scientific studies currently available have not shown any particular problem with the occasional use of this drug in pregnant women. Only your doctor can evaluate the possible risk of its use in your case.

When a serious disease requires prolonged treatment in the mother, medical supervision of the newborn is necessary.

BREASTFEEDING :
In case of prolonged treatment, it may be necessary to interrupt breastfeeding: take the advice of your doctor.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE OF PREDNISONE ARROW
This medicine should be taken with a meal, preferably at once in the morning.

The tablets are not suitable for children under 6 years of age. Indeed, they may obstruct the airways if the child swallows badly and the tablet passes into the trachea (false route).

During prolonged treatments, and as soon as the control of the disease allows it, an alternate intake every other day is preferable, especially in children.

USUAL DOSAGE :
Adults and children over 6 years of age: frequently, the initial dosage is high (loading therapy); it is then decreased to the minimum effective dosage (maintenance therapy).

Any prolonged high dose treatment must be stopped gradually: follow the doctor's instructions.

ADVICE
Prolonged treatment lasting more than a few days may require :
reducing salt intake,

taking potassium (prescribed by the doctor),

a diet rich in protein and calcium and low in carbohydrates.
